Affordable Housing Dwelling Units are intended to assist with the housing needs of, young adults of modest means forming new households, and public sector employees in moderate income ranges, residents approaching retirement age, with consequent fixed or reduced incomes who wish to live within the City.
Per the City of Laurel Unified Development Code, any multifamily development of 100 dwelling units or less approved after November 23, 2020, shall include a minimum of three (3) per cent of the total number of apartments as work force housing units and a minimum of three (3) per cent of the total number of apartments as moderately priced housing units.
Per the City of Laurel Unified Development Code, any multifamily development of 100 dwelling units or more approved after November 23, 2020, shall include a minimum of four (4) per cent of the total number of apartments as work force housing units, a minimum of four (4) per cent of the total number of apartments as moderately priced housing units and a minimum of four (4) per cent of the total number of apartments as age-restricted housing units.
Work Force Housing rent is determined as an annual household income of up to fifty (50) per cent of the median income in Prince George's County.
Moderate Income Housing rent is determined as an annual household income of up to sixty (60) per cent of the median income in Prince George's County.
Age Restricted Housing rent is determined as an annual household income of up to sixty (60) per cent of the median income in Prince George's County.
Prince George’s County obtains median income rates from The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Below are the current median rates for the Prince George’s County:

Multifamily developments of fifty (50) or more dwelling units approved prior to February 23, 2015 are subject to previous rates, which are marked with an asterisk (*). These include Work Force Housing at seventy (70) per cent of median household income in Prince George’s County and Moderate Income Housing at eighty (80) per cent of median household income in Prince George’s County.
